Summer School 2026

The Summer School on Sensor Fusion, held at the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) in Gliwice brought together doctoral candidates, researchers, and academic experts from several European universities to exchange knowledge, present research results, and discuss current challenges in artificial intelligence and intelligent systems. The event provided a platform for strengthening international research collaboration, promoting doctoral mobility, and sharing innovative approaches to sensor fusion and AI-driven technologies.

The programme covered a wide range of topics, including multimodal data fusion, explainable and trustworthy artificial intelligence, federated learning, time-series analysis, autonomous systems, and cyber-physical systems. Particular attention was given to practical applications in industrial environments, autonomous mobile robots, healthcare, energy-efficient systems, and internal logistics. Research presentations by doctoral candidates and students demonstrated how advanced AI methods can improve perception, prediction, decision-making, and anomaly detection in complex systems.

The Summer School also featured keynote lectures by invited experts, a panel discussion on the future of AI doctoral training and research mobility in Europe, and interactive group exercises focused on identifying and analysing AI-related risks. Discussions on AI ethics, model interpretability, technical debt, and the reliability of AI-based solutions highlighted the importance of developing transparent, responsible, and trustworthy intelligent systems.

Overall, the event provided valuable opportunities for interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, professional development, and networking among researchers at different stages of their academic careers. It also strengthened cooperation between participating institutions and contributed to the development of a collaborative European research community focused on advancing artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, and reliable cyber-physical systems.
